Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the Netherlands’ main airport for international traffic. Schiphol airport is about 9 kilo meters ( 5.6 miles ) from Amsterdam, and is reachable in about 20 minutes by car. The airport is located south west of Amsterdam in Haarlemmermeer Municipality.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the most important European Airports, and is the third largest airport in the world with regards to international traffic, and is also the 14 t h largest in the world and 3 r d largest airport with respect to cargo tonnage. Schiphol is also 14 t h busiest airport in the world by overall passenger volume, and is in 17 t h position according to number of flights. Banking and Communication Facilities
Schiphol has many banks, Automated teller machines ( A T M s ), currency exchange machines and bureaux foreign currency exchange offices. Lounge 2 has a post office, and mobile telephones can be rented at Telecom Rent center at Schiphol Plaza. Wireless fidelity for internet access is also provided at select zones which are known as communication zones. There are also Multi phone Multimedia telephone units at regular intervals throughout Schiphol, which are facilities where one can telephone, access the Internet or use the Short Messaging Service ( S M S ) to send phone messages.
Food and Drink
Many restaurants, bars, eateries and cafes are located in the terminal building, at regular intervals.
Shopping facilities
The Schiphol Plaza located just before security, has many excellent stores, including duty free shops, as well as a supermarket open for 24 hours. Shopping can be done both sides of immigration.
There is also an online shopping service, whereby one can place prior duty free orders and collect them later.
Baggage and Luggage Facilities
There are quite a few Seal and Go outlets, which can seal any size luggage within one minute. There are also lockers in most places within the terminal building. Free trolleys and porter service is also available. There is a lost and found center, and information desks are also available to furnish information and assistance when required.
Medical, Child Care and Sanitation Facilities
Schiphol has a well equipped medical center, which has a 24 hour emergency medical service. There is also a pharmacy and first aid.
There is a baby room with all the necessary equipment provided, and several Play areas are also included. The rest rooms have baby change facilities. Shower facilities have been made available 24 hours a day at the terminal hotel.
Other
Massages can be received at the massage center. There is a good sized casino. A prayer room is also available, for meditation and prayer.
