Sharm el-Sheikh is an International Airport which was earlier known as Ophira International Airport. This airport lies at the northeast of Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt and was opened on May 14, 1968. This airport was actually a base for the Israeli Air Force and provided tiny settlement of Ofira before this region was given back to Egypt next to the Camp David Accords.
The airport has two terminals and the airport code is SSH. This airport could be seen near Ras Nasrani and you can easily reach to the city centre by driving for 20 minutes from airport. Usually, this airport holds 7,758,859 crowds of passengers and is the second busiest airport after Cairo International Airport in Egypt.
Terminal 2 was renovated in the year 2004 that boosted its capacity to handle 2.5 million passengers a year. Terminal 1 has the capacity to handle 5 million passengers a year and features its two-level 43,000 square metre terminal with 40 check-in counters. It was planned to provide a huge amount of international and chartered flights. Besides this, the airport has two domestic and six international gates and all of them has exit the distant stands. The terminal has three building components out of them two are the circular-shaped halls merged collectively by a wedge-shaped midway space named ‘the boat’.
