This airport was awarded for IATA Eagle Award in the year 2005 there are only two airports which received this award and Brisbane is one of them. Sky trax World Airport Awards voted Brisbane Airport the best airport in the Australia-Pacific region because of its friendliest staff in the world in 2008, again in the year 2009 it was voted as the best airport in Australia and once again the friendliest staff award for Asia Pacific region. Queensland architecture award was given to the International terminal of Brisbane Airport.
In the year 1925 this area was declared as aerodrome as it was originally a farming area because of its flat surface Eagle Farm. The operations by Qantas were started in the year 1926 while most of the flights use to operate from Archer field Airport which was a major landing surface. In the year 1928 Charles Kingsford Smith landed here after completing the first Trans pacific flight in Fokker F VII and the original aircraft is placed in a museum here along with a memorial. Brisbane was the major headquarters of the Supreme Commander of Allied forces which is located in the South West Pacific Area during the Second World War. This area was catering for military flights by the United States armed forces and after that time it became the main airport of the city. The facilities of Eagle Farm were appreciated for the city of Brisbane and its growth by the year 1970. The construction of new airport was built on the north of Eagle Farm by the Federal Government. Leighton Holdings built this new airport and opened in the year 1988. It was built on the former Brisbane residential suburb of Cribb Island and that was destroyed to build the way for airport. Sand on large amount was transferred from Moreton Bay which made swampy land on the range of tides. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport hold the contract of Brisbane Airport for 99 year lease signed with Federal Airports Corporation. This now holds the management and Brisbane Airport is now the heart of planned “Airport City” development. Brisbane Airport is also a partner of Australia Trade Coast economic development zone.
Terminals of Brisbane Airport
Brisbane Airport has two passenger terminals. There are parking bays with aerobridges on International Terminal. The international terminal has expanded with 12 parking bays all over the terminal and 2 of them are ready. There are 4 levels on the international terminal; level 1 is for house airlines, tourism operator, and baggage handlers. The arrivals are handled at level 2, while level 3 is for departure lounge and level 4 houses is for departure check in. Emirates Airline lounge is also served here on this airport the first place outside Dubai. Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand are also served here on this terminal. The international terminal also has 5 storey car parking and smaller short term car parking. Domestic terminal is connected with Qantaslink, Qantas, and Virgin Blue and Jet star, Skytrans are another carriers served here. There are many development projects under construction which includes domestic terminal expansion, new parallel runway, airport drive congestion, road infrastructure etc.
Parking
The parking on both the terminals is divided into three types like pickup and drop (up to 15mins), meeting and fare welling (up to 4 hours) and traveling (more than 4 hours). The parking at Brisbane Airport is safe, secure and hassle free. These parking types are called as Park quick, Park short, Park long, and Park valet. Moreton Drive and Nancy bird way are the new ways recently constructed for the convenient parking.
