Calgary International Airport that serves the entire city



At 20 kilometre towards northeast of Calgary is what the Calgary International Airport is located. It is an airport that serves Calgary in Alberta and increases the glory of Canada and the nearby region. The Calgary International Airport (YYC) offers regular scheduled flights to major cities in Canada, the Carribean, Central America, Europe, the United States and also very soon will serve Asia when Air Canada will start its service to Tokyo in the year 2010. This airport serves as the hub for Air Canada and also Air Canada Jazz which is a base for Central Mountain Air also as a focus city for Westlet Airlines. It is operated by the Calgary Airport Authority and is the fourth busiest airport in Canada as per the passenger traffic. Every year this airport serves some 12.5 million passengers. Its runway 16/34 is the longest runway in the entire Canada with an elevation of 3,557 feet.

Not only this, cargo flights are also operated from this airport like Antonov Airlines, Asiana Airlines Cargo, DB Schenker which is operated by Capital Cargo International Airlines, Cargojet Airways, Cargolux, DHL Express operated by Astar Air Cargo, FedEx Express, FedEx Feeder that are operated by Morningstar Air Express, Purolator Courier operated by Kelowna Flightcraft Ltd. and UPS Airlines. Some airlines that are operated out of their own private facilities are Alta Flights, Bar XH Air, Corporate Express, Kenn Borek Air, Skyxpress Airline, Sunwest Aviation and Swanberg Air.

From the airport if you want to reach to the city centre then drive accross the Road NE and then take a left turn onto Barlow Trail North, then again turn left on Airport Trail NE and later take left at the traffic lights. Later join onto Deerfoot Trail south, go out to the 16th Avenue West which is the TransCanada Highway and then turn left towards the Centre Street. Otherwise, you can drive south on the Barlow Trail towards the Memorial Drive exit ramp after that take Memorial Drive west and take the exit ramp off 4th Avenue. That’s all you need to do to reach to your destination. The airport has long and short term parking spaces available for you. Right opposite the terminal on the ground floor level you will get the short term parking. You can also hire a car from any of the car companies representing the airport like Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and others. Discount Car is also available at the off site with courtesy shuttle.

Buses and Taxis are always there to take you to your destination in the city. IF you have any queries then get it solved from the informationa booth on the first level. A Tourist Information is also available in the Arrivals area from where you can ask for tourist attractions of the area. For a number of assistance White Hat Volunteers are there for you. The airport provides facilities like ATMs, bureaux de change, mobile telephone hire offices, postal services, internet, fax and photocopying for money and communications. For eating and drinking you will get many restaurants, bars and cafes at the airport. Try shopping at a variety of shops in the airport. Other facilities that the airport provides are medical clinic, children’s play area, travel insaurance services, chapel, pet exercise area and smoking lounges. Also you will get an educational entertainment centre and a wellness spa.
