Boeing will begin modified 737 by 2017

Boeing Company, in response to Airbus made a competitive offering, announced that it will soon be rolling out a modified 737, the best selling plane from the manufacturer. The narrowbody will have more efficiency as well as a new engine. The company mentioned that it had received orders for five airlines, for four hundred and ninety six of the new Boeings from five airlines. The name of the new model will be 737 Max, and will be in competition with the newly redeveloped A320neo family of planes from Airbus, a European company. The Airbus model is similar and has fuel saving engines. The Airbus fleet will be delivered in 2015. Northwest Arkansas Regional Opens New $20 Million Concourse

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport will be opening a new passenger concourse as large as fifty thousand square feet and costing upto $ 20 million. The new addition is hoped to draw in attention from low cost airline services. Chairman of the board of Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, Philip Taldo said that even though they receive a number of complaints on the expensive flights offered, the airport could not help it as there are just so many destinations for accommodating the business traffic. Taldo said that it is hoped that a low cost carrier will be attracted to the airport over the next ten years. At the present, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport has 6 air carriers serving it, and this includes the budget carrier Allegiant Air. Qantas Engineers Will Stop Work One Hour Everyday

A union of engineers working for Qantas Airways Ltd has announced that they will be on strike for one hour everyday in protest against the airlines. These one hour stoppages will continue right until December, one week prior to Christmas. The announcement was made by the union on Fri. Qantas Airways announced on Tuesday  that it would be launching a new premium carrier in Asia, mostly Malaysia or Singapore, which would not be carrying the Qantas Brand. In addition, there would be a low cost carrier launched in Japan. The engineer union was the first to launch industrial action against the airline since the announcement. Unions representing baggage handlers and pilots have also made threats of industrial action, as they claim that the airline is cutting costs by outsourcing jobs offshore, and  [...] 

Southwest Airlines – Non-stop flights between Boise, Reno Dropped

Southwest Airlines has stopped non stop flights between Reno and Boise. Reno is the twelfth most popular destination flied to from Boise. There is only one way to access Reno now, and that would be to get a connection from another city. A majority of the flights were halted on 25th Jul 2011. Two daily Boise Reno flights were canned, and in addition to this, there were two daily Boise – Seattle flights, and two daily Boise Salt Lake City flights that were halted service. The Boise Seattle runs were quickly filled by Alaska Airlines stepping in. Delta Airlines is now thinking of increasing its flights to Salt Lake City as well. TSA Promises Better Interrogation

Transport Security Agency has promised to recruit higher quality personnel for interrogation if the current team of agents is not up to the mark in sophisticated screening techniques based on behavior modeled after Israel. The hiring will be done from soldiers, cops and ex air marshals with experience in the science of interrogation. George Naccara, director of TSA declared at Logan International Airport that if they do not have the talent within the agency, hiring will be done from the outside. He also said that a different pool force will be hired, and that prior experience in the fields of military, air force, law enforcement and others will be looked for. 25,000 US Airports Breached Since 2001

The Department of Homeland Security released some new documents recently that have revealed that there have been close to twenty five thousand security breaches occurred at US airports all over the country, right from Nov 2001. This is an average of seven security breaches in one day. The documents were presented at a House subcommittee meeting yesterday. USA Today obtained the documents in advance, but they do not go into much detail regarding the security breaches. They do not contain information on whether they could have had the possibility of leading to potential attacks on airplanes or commuters. Among the twenty five thousand breaches, more than fourteen thousand of these were people that entered areas that general public was not permitted to such as airport passageways or doors that  [...] 

New York Metro Area Proposing Expansion of Airport

The New York Metro Area and the group responsible for managing the airports of New York are in the process of studying certain proposals for expansion for the airports. This was after a warning about the possible harm to the economy of the region that could be incurred if the increasing demand for air travel in the city is not fulfilled. The Port Authority of New York received a huge number of proposals before the deadline set at 1st of Jul for the comments on the plans for expansion of usage at the Newark Liberty Airport, John F Kennedy Airport and the LaGuardia Airport. JetBlue and Qatar Airways Partners Now

NEW YORK, DOHA – JetBlue Airways and Qatar Airways announced that they were signing a new interline agreement so that the passengers of the two carriers can be connected effortlessly between the networks. The networks via the Washington Dulles International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport are used. Qatar Airways was at the receiving end of the title of “Airline of the Year” for operational excellence and outstanding in flight product at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2011. Now that the new agreement has been signed, passengers will have the choice to buy a single itinerary that would combine flights on the global networks or carriers affording them the ease of one stop ticketing and luggage check in. Easyjet Launches London Southend Base for Olympics

EasyJet, a budget carrier based in Britain said it would start operations from the Southend Airport in London from Apr 2012, in anticipation for the London Olympics. The low cost airline announced on Thurs, that it would be basing 3 new Airbus A319 aircraft and close to a hundred and fifty employees at the Stobart Group owned airport. This is close to forty mi to the south east of central London. Through this airport, the airline expects to deliver close to eight hundred thousand passengers through the airport in the first year. EasyJet has drawn up a contract for ten years with the Southend Airport. The airline will be operating seventy flights from London Southend Airport to ten different European destinations. Greece – Crete Airport Tender Award Pushed Back Again

The socialist government of Greece pushed back the deadline yet another time for the EUR € 1 billion tender award for a new airport in Crete. This is the fifth time the government has postponed the project, which has been seen as a measure of the appetite investors have for deals in the recession affected country. Since winning power in 2009 Oct, Kasteli is the first project in infrastructure on a major scale undertaken by the Greek Government. This is one of a number of sizeable investments that the country will require if it is looking at kick starting growth as well as exit the debt crisis. The deadline for the tender award was set to run out by Tues this week was again extended to 18 t h Oct. This was in accordance with a decision made by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
