History about the airport

The O’Hare airport was constructed during the year 1942 and 1943. It was initially a manufacturing plant for the Douglas C-54’s during the time of the World War II. The airport is connected through a narrow strip of land to the city of Chicago, which is around 61m wide.

Terminals

The airport has four terminals, which are operational. O’Hare carries 182 aircraft gates through those four terminals. They are all for domestic use except for terminal number 5, which is exclusively for international aircrafts.

There are two concourses in the terminal. Concourse B has 22 gates, Concourse A has 29 gates, Concourse E has 16 gates, and Concourse F has 14 gates and the rest of the concourses have 80 gates.

Cargo Carriers

There are two major cargo carriers in the O’ Hare airport, which have their own warehouses. The Southwest area of the airport accommodates 80% of the cargo and the rest accommodates the other 10-20%.

Runways

There are around 7 air carrier runways that are arranged in a parallel set of 3. But the runways are all interconnected, which makes it impossible for the flights to take off during rough weather and leads to congestion of air traffic.
