Varna Airport is located in the city of Varna in Bulgaria. This airport adds one more feather on the hat of Europe. Also Varna is the maritime capital of Bulgaria. Varna Airport handles some 1,432,703 passengers and 15,129 aircraft movements every year. This airport is linked with the port of Varna and also with the railway system. Domestic and International flights operates from this airport to almost 70 different destinations in 25 countries. Out of which, over 100 Bulgarian and foreign airlines are operated from the Varna airport.
The airport has a major concrete pavement runway of 09/27 and also has a parking apron for 24 aircraft. The length of the runway is 8202 feet with 230 feets of height. Varna Airport was facing heavy traffic as the tourism industry was boosting ahead in Bulgaria. Hence, major investments were required to expand the airport in such a way that it could handle the passenger traffic. Later, the government of Bulgaria was offered more than €500 million to Varna and Burgas airports to expand its infrastructure. A new passenger terminal was also included in the project.
The scheduled airlines that are operated from this airport are Air Berlin, Air Moldova, Austrian Airlines operated by Tyrolean Airways, British Airways, Bulgaria Air, Luxair, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle, S7 Airlines, South Airlines, Wizz Air and Wizz Air Bulgaria. Besides this, some charter flights are also operated from this airport like Air VIA, Aerosvit Airlines, Air Méditerranée, Arkefly, BH Air, Bulgarian Air Charter, Euroline, Jet2.com, Jetairfly, Kish Air, Middle East Airlines, Novair, Rossiya, Sky Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines (Belgium) and Transaero.
The Varna airport has its code as VAR and has total five different terminals. Terminals 2 and 3 are especially built for departures and Terminals 1 and 4 are for arrivals. Besides these, there is one more terminal left which is called as Terminal 5 and is only used for the arrival passengers during the season of summer. This airport lies at a distance of 7.5 kilometres that is of 5 miles towards west of Varna. The airport has an official website as well which is www.varna-airport.bg.
To reach at every terminal, shuttle buses are operated in between the terminals and all of them lie close to each other. To reach at the airport from the city all you have to drive towards the west on E70. Then just turn onto A2 and follow the signs to the airport. Well the airport and the city are finely signposted. The drive will take nearly 15 minutes but all depends upon the traffic conditions. Once you reach there, you can park your car at the huge parking lot opposite International Terminal buildings. You will get short and long term parking spaces at the airport.
To reach to your destination in the city you can hire a car from any of the car companies or can also travel by buses or Taxis. Taxis could be found in front of the arrivals hall of the International Terminal 4 which could be found next to the parking lot. Frequency of buses and taxis are very high. Buses could be found in front of the VIP hall that goes to the city or sea resorts. So those who want to visit such resorts or to Varna city must use this bus stop only. For any information one can head to the International desk situated in the public area in between terminal 2 and Terminal 3. You will get timetable that displays in all terminals.
Facilities like money and communications, eating and drinking, shopping, luggage, conference and business facilities and special facilities for disabled travellers all are available in the airport. ATMs could be found in Terminal 2 and 4. Licensed foreign exchange services could also be found in Terminal 3 and also in 4. Telephone booths, post boxes and Internet access are available in the terminals. To eat you have four separate coffee bars in the public and transit areas of the terminals. You can try shopping at the airport where you will get four duty-free shops and could be found in terminals 2, 3 and 4. A VIP lounge with meeting room, 
fax, printers, computers and internet access is also available.
You won’t get any hotels in the airport but shuttle services are offered to lot of hotels in the downtown. So you can properly accommodate and have fun in the Varna Airport. If you get some time then do not miss to visit the nearby attractions of the city. Visit the Naval Museum and the History of Varna Museum.
